چکیده

This paper demonstrates a label-free biosensing platform using Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) micro-racetrack resonators, cascaded such that multiple measurements can be made using a single input and output waveguide and therefore a single detector. The devices are integrated with poly(dimethylsiloxane) microfluidic channels in order to characterize the devices’ sensing properties. Both bulk refractive index sensing using glycerin/water solutions and clinically-relevant biosensing using Human Factor IX and its corresponding antibody are characterized. Bulk sensitivities of 40 nm/RIU are achieved, and the devices are able to sense both the protein attachment during functionalization and the protein-antibody binding reaction.

Demonstration of Microcantilever Biosensor Array with In-plane Photonic Transduction Mechanism

We review progress toward microcantilever arrays with in-plane photonic readout for biosensing applications. Microcantilever arrays are fabricated on individual silicon-on-insulator (SOI) chips and integrated with two-layer polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microfluidics that incorporate fluid channels and valves. Microcantilever functionalization is accomplished by inkjetting appropriate fluids onto...

Series-coupled silicon racetrack resonators and the Vernier effect: theory and measurement.

Silicon-on-insulator racetrack resonators can be used as multiplexers in wavelength division multiplexing applications. The free spectral range should be comparable to the span of the C-band so that a maximum number of channels can be multiplexed. However, the free spectral range is inversely proportional to the length of the resonator and, therefore, bending losses can become non-negligible. A...

Measurement of small molecule diffusion with an optofluidic silicon chip.

In this work we explore the micro-ring resonator platform to study the diffusion-driven mass transport of small molecules within microfluidic channels. The micro-ring resonators are integrated on a silicon-on-insulator photonic chip and combined with microfluidics in poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS). We apply a strong initial gradient in the solute concentration and use the micro-ring resonators t...

Polarization-independent optical racetrack resonators using rib waveguides on silicon-on-insulator

In an effort to find low-cost alternatives for components currently used in dense wavelength division multiplexing, optical ring resonators fabricated on silicon on insulator are currently being investigated. Their performance can be further enhanced if they are polarization independent. Herein we use rib waveguides to control the polarization properties of the devices and hence produce polariz...
